The young players of Northamptonshire are not the only cricketers to taste success this summer. Northamptonshire Over 60s are currently topping the Spitfire National Over 60s Championship having won all 8 league fixtures this season.
In their latest fixture they restricted Hertfordshire to 137-7 before completing the run chase for the loss of 3 wickets. Ray Swann continued his rich vein of form with an unbeaten 70.
England Over 60s International Swann tops both the batting and bowling averages – he has logged 411 runs at an average of 137 with the bat, including a top score of 135 and has snared 17 wickets with his canny medium pacers. Opening batting partner C. Thomas has also been in fine form with bat registering more than 200 runs including 2 fifties.
Aiding Swann with the ball has been all rounder Stephen Edwards, he has claimed 10 wickets and also struck 93 with the bat against Cambridgeshire. Dave Ward of Wollaston has also been amongst the wickets, claiming 5-33 v Leicestershire.
The side has now ensured its place in the last 8 of the National Competition. Their next fixture sees them travel to either Wales or Gloucester.
